MSG (Monosodium Glutamate): The Flavor Enhancing Excitotoxin Linked to Obesity, Brain Damage and other Diseases - by SoundHealth

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a popular food additive found in many commercially prepared and packaged foods. Numerous studies have linked it to obesity, brain damage, macular degeneration and liver damage, yet it is still found in many of the foods we eat. MSG Is Linked to Obesity
Recent research has shown that monosodium glutamate (MSG) causes weight gain and obesity in lab animals, and that it can have the same effect in humans.
The research was reported in the journal obesity, and found that the food additive damaged the appetite regulation center in the hypothalamus (an area of the brain), causing leptin resistance. Leptin is a protein hormone that regulates energy intake and energy expenditure, including appetite and metabolism.
Researchers conducted a cross-sectional study in China, and participants were told to add quantified amounts of MSG when preparing their foods. After adjusting for confounders including physical activity and total energy intake, the researchers found that MSG consumption was positively related to increases in body mass index.

Allah is most Merciful and Forgiving

Allah is most Merciful
The Qur’an says several times that Allah is the most Merciful. In fact all the 114 Surahs i.e. chapters of the Glorious Qur’an except for Surah Taubah chapter 9, begin with the beautiful formula, Bismillah-hir-Rahman-nir-Rahim, which means, “In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful”.
Allah is Forgiving
The Glorious Qur’an mentions in several verses including Surah Nisa, chapter 4 verse 25 and Surah Maidah, chapter 5 verse 74:

Petition to save Jannat Ul-Baqi

Bismillah
As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh
We protest the demolition of Jannatul Baqi by Ibn e Saud and demand its reconstruction.
————————————————————————— ———————————————
On 8th Shawwal, Wednesday, in the year 1345 AH (April 21, 1925), mausoleums in Jannatul al-Baqi (Madina) were demolished by King Ibn Saud.In the same year (1925), he also demolished the tombs of holy personages at Jannat al-Mualla (Makkah) where the Holy Prophet Peace Be Upon Him’s mother, wife, grandfather and other ancestors are buried.
Destruction of sacred sites in Hijaz by the Saudi Najdis continues even today. According to some scholars what is happening in Hijaz.  The idea is to eradicate the Islamic legacy and heritage and to systematically remove all its vestiges so that in the days to come, Muslims will have no affiliation with their religious history.

Doha

Doha is the capital city of Qatar. Located on the Persian Gulf, it had a population of 998,651 in 2008 and is also one of the municipalities of Qatar. Doha is Qatar’s largest city, with over 80% of the nation’s population residing in Doha or its surrounding suburbs, and is also the economic center of the country.

Spicy Coconut Fish Curry

This is a recipe for a very quick and simple, but delicious spicy fish curry flavored with coconut milk. Coconut is a highly nutritious health food and using coconut milk is an excellent way of incorporating coconut into your diet. The recipe works best with firm fish, but you can use any white fish of your choice, such as haddock, cod or halibut.
Ingredients
For the curry:

For the marinade:

  • ½ tbsp fresh minced ginger
  • ½ tbsp fresh minced garlic
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp freshly ground coriander
  • 2 tbsp water

Nisaar Y. Nadiadwala – The Impact of Touhid on a Muslim’s Life…

Nisaar Y. Nadiadwala – The Impact of Touhid on a Muslim’s Life…:

Ibn Kathir has narrated a noteworthy incident in his master piece, Al Bidaya wal Nihaya vol 4, page number 445, Arabic edition.:

Zaid bin Dasina and 9 other people were deputed by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessingsbe upon him), to go around Medina and spy if any unusal thing was happening. On their way they were confronted by Banu Lahyan, a Pagan tribe. There was a fight, 8 Muslims were kiled and two, including Zaid and Khubaiab were arrested. They wer taken to the market of Makkah and sold. The buyer was Saffan bin Ummaya , the most hostile enemy of Islam.

The men remained captive under Saffwan and one day Saffwan bin Umayya took his men to the outskirts of Makkah to get some entertainment while torturing Khabbab and Zaid to death.

Abu Sufiyan, who was not yet a Muslim, also joined them. The scene was frightening, like a butcher’s place where animals are kept for slaughter.

The men were told that they were to be killed and all the preparation was done.

The two men did not fear.

Abu Sufiyan noticed it and tried to confirm the courage of the two. He asked Zaid: “Would you now desire that Muhammed bin Abdullah (referring to the Prophet peace be upon him) was here in your place and you were a free man with your family?” Zaid did not hesitate to reply : “By Allah! Even if a thorn would prick the Prophet’s body for my freedom, I would not accept the bargain”!!!

Abu Sufiyan was taken aback and he acknowledged : “By Allah! I have never seen a man more loved by his people than Muhammed (peace be upon him )“.

Once there was a famine during the rein of Umar bin Alkhattab r.a. and there was an acute shortage of food grain. The Khalifa got the news that a caravan of Uthman bin Affan r.a. was reaching Madina and it carried food grain. So the Khalifa called upon Uthman r.a. and asked him if he is willing to sell all his food grain to the Government which in return will pay him and distribute the food grain to the masses.

Uthman r.a. said: ” O Ameerul Mom’mineen.. I have Already struck the deal with a better bargain…”

Umar felt bad for missing out a deal in favour of people. So he asked who bought your goods.

Uthman replied: “I struck a deal with Allah and has decided to give away all the food grains to be distributed free”!!!

Uthman found that the offer given by Allah was far better and beneficial than what was offered by his Khalifa!!!

What was the thing that made Zaid, Uthman and hundreds of sahaba r.a.a. ready to die or spend everything for the sake of the religion they had accepted?

It was Touhid, the monotheism of Islam.

Muslims have failed to realised what impact can Touhid can mark on our pyshcology, emotions, economy, personality, relations and business as well.

A believer in Allah is not afraid of :

1. Poverty , so he spends in good cause instead of being a miser : “Shaytan threatens you with poverty and bids you to conduct immodesty and Allah promises you His forgiveness and bounties and Allah cares for all… (Surah alBakarah verse 269)

2. Death , so he prepares for his death : “O Righteous soul ! Be in satisfaction and come back to your Lord well pleased with you and you well pleased unto Him.. (Surah al Fajr : 27,28)

3. Hardships so he bears with Patience : ”Allah is with those who are patience..Those who when a calamity befalls upon them say Indeed we are from Allah and to Him we shall return..”Surah Bakarah verse 153

4. Speaking truth so he stands up for justice :

5:8

يا أيها الذين آمنوا كونوا قوامين لله شهداء بالقسط ولا يجرمنكم شنآن قوم على ألا تعدلوا اعدلوا هو أقرب للتقوى واتقوا الله إن الله خبير بما تعملون

O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah , witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do.

Touhid makes you brave, couragous, independant of people, generous , honest, kind and grateful because it is Touhid that gives a belief on the day of Judgement, hell and heaven and a hope of reward and fear of punishment .. If you don’t possess these qualities then your Emaan is weak, work on it..

REVIVE A SUNNAH ⇨ "OBSERVING THE NAAFIL (SUPEREROGATORY) PRAYERS"

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:

“The first of his deeds for which a person will be brought to account on the Day of Resurrection will be his prayer. If it is sound then he will have succeeded but if it is not sound then he will be lost and doomed.

If anything is lacking from his obligatory prayers, the Lord will say:

‘Look and see whether My slave has any voluntary (prayers),’ and the shortfall from his obligatory prayers will be made up from that. Then all his deeds will be dealt with in like manner.”

[Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 413; Abu Dawood, 864; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.]

Award winning Animated Short on how entwined our lives are with Fate.

Me meeting my wife had involved a large number of coincidences to occur. A story that I will share someday. But that’s nothing compared to how my parents met and got married. Their marriage took place just within a day of their meeting! Imagine that. Well, that’s another story that I may share some other day.
Anyway, the narrator of The Danish Poet intriguingly begins by saying, “our chance to be born hinges on our parents meeting.” If you think about it, the meeting of our parents is dependent on a whole lot of circumstances that is not within our control. Hence we can’t be responsible for our parents. Therefore we can’t be responsible for the inherited charateristics that we have. So we shouldn’t be punished for mistakes that we do. Why? because they happened due to environmental circumstances (beyond our control) and because of our decision which has been heavily influenced by our genes & upbringing (again beyond our control).
Anyway, don’t bother your head with that and just Watch this beautiful animated short. It will make you smile, it will make you sniffle, it will make you almost jump from your seat to scream at your computer screen saying, “oh c’mon they were almost so close.” Have I given too much away. I think not. It’s only 15 minutes long, you can click here to view part 1 of The Danish Poet and once you’re done with that, you can click here to watch part 2. Enjoy and please do share your comments below. The upbringing of Muslim children (3)

AFTER BIRTH

PHYSICAL CARE

Breastfeeding

It is best that the mother nurses her child as her milk is the most beneficent nutrient for him and she is more merciful to him than any other woman. Allah said: “The mothers shall give suck to their children for two whole years, that is for those who desire to complete the term of suckling.” (Qur’an 2:233)

Modern research proved that the mother’s milk strengthens the child’s immune system at a time when the child is most vulnerable.Ibn ‘Umar, radiallahu ‘anhu, reported that a group of merchants arrived to Madinah and settled in the mosque. So Umar told Abdurrahman ibn Awf, radiallahu ‘anhu, “Let’s guard them tonight from thieves.” So they spent the night watching and praying as much as Allah had destined to them. Umar heard the weeping of a child so he went towards him and told his mother:

“Fear Allah and be good to your child” and he went back to his place. He heard the child crying again and told his mother the same thing and went back to his place. By the end of the night he heard him crying again so he told his mother: “You are a bad mother, your child did not sleep all night.” So she said: “I am trying to wean him but he refuses.” He said: “Why are you doing that?” She said: “Because Umar does not prescribe child support except for children who are already weaned.”

He said: “How old is he?” She said: “Such and such.” He said: “No! Do not hurry him.”
Umar prayed Fajr and was weeping during the prayer to the extent that his recitation was barely understandable. After he made tasleem he said: “Misery is for Umar. He has killed Muslim children.” He then asked someone to make the call that people should not rush their children to weaning, child support is prescribed to every child. And he sent letters to that effect to all the Muslim land.” (The History of Umar ibn al-Khattab by ibn Aljawzy, pages 74-75.)

Spending for all the needs of the child

Thawban reported Allah’s Messenger, sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, as saying: “The most excellent Dinar is one that a person spends on his family, and the Dinar which he spends on his animal in Allah’s path, and the Dinar which he spends on his companions in Allah’s path.” [Muslim.]

10 Odd Allergies

Can you imagine yourself to be allergic to the most desired thing of your life? Believe it or not it does happen to many people. You have seen people around you who are sneezing, coughing or rubbing their skin because of itching, but have you ever asked the reason of their allergy? If you ask only then you will know the strange facts about allergies.  Allergy is basically an exaggerated immune response to something that is most commonly not harmful and that is why there are a lot of strange and odd reasons of reactions. In this article I am introducing you to ten allergies that happen due to some odd reasons, they are as follows.

10. Allergic to Vibrations

People with sensitive skin are the most commonly become the victim of this allergy in which an episode of urticaria induce in the body parts by the vibrations of machinery like cars and lawnmowers. Just like other allergies, it is caused by the wrong perception of immune system to harmless object and immune system responds in defense to the object as it may cause any damage to the body. Welt, rashes, hives and other skin reactions immediately appear almost within five minutes and remain for hours or days as urticaria comes from histamine. The allergy can be treated by antihistamine or by calamine lotion.

Arab History

History is the witness that testifies to the passing of time; it illumines reality, vitalizes memory, provides guidance in daily life and brings us tidings of antiquity
Cicero

The status of Arabs before Islam revelation has no such thing as a sense of unity or nationalism, although all the people of the peninsula were Arabs. Each tribe was a separate and independent entity, with different dialects and religious beliefs and had no feeling of affinity or loyalty to any other except in terms of mutually beneficial and convenient alliances.

World of Islam

The Spread of Islam

From the oasis cities of Makkah and Madinah in the Arabian desert, the message of Islam went forth with electrifying speed. Within half a century of the Prophet's death, Islam had spread to three continents. Islam is not, as some imagine in the West, a religion of the sword nor did it spread primarily by means of war. It was only within Arabia, where a crude form of idolatry was rampant, that Islam was propagated by warring against those tribes which did not accept the message of God--whereas Christians and Jews were not forced to convert. Outside of Arabia also the vast lands conquered by the Arab armies in a short period became Muslim not by force of the sword but by the appeal of the new religion. It was faith in One God and emphasis upon His Mercy that brought vast numbers of people into the fold of Islam. The new religion did not coerce people to convert. Many continued to remain Jews and Christians and to this day important communities of the followers of these faiths are found in Muslim lands. Moreover, the spread of Islam was not limited to its miraculous early expansion outside of Arabia. During later centuries the Turks embraced Islam peacefully as did a large number of the people of the Indian subcontinent and the Malay-speaking world. In Africa also, Islam has spread during the past two centuries even under the mighty power of European colonial rulers. Today Islam continues to grow not only in Africa but also in Europe and America where Muslims now comprise a notable minority.

General Characteristics of Islam

Islam was destined to become a world religion and to create a civilization which stretched from one end of the globe to the other. Already during the early Muslim caliphates, first the Arabs, then the Persians and later the Turks set about to create classical Islamic civilization. Later, in the 13th century, both Africa and India became great centers of Islamic civilization and soon thereafter Muslim kingdoms were established in the Malay-Indonesian world while Chinese Muslims flourished throughout China.

Lower thy wings to the Believers!

Let us consider the following ayat of the Quran (15:88) :
“But lower thy wing (in gentleness) to the believers – Yusuf Ali’s Translation.
“But spread the wings of thy tenderness over the believers” – Muhammad Asad’s Translation.
The Arabic term “janaah” refers to “wing” of a bird. But do we have wings?
Muhammad Asad, comments  thus for the above verse:
“Lower thy wing for the believers”: an idiomatic metaphor for loving tenderness and humility”.
The same word “wing” is used in another context also in the Quran.
“And out of kindness lower to them the wing of humility and say: “My Lord! bestow on them Thy Mercy even as they cherished me in childhood.” (17:24) (Yusuf Ali’s Translation).
Asad’s translation would be “And spread over humbly the wings of thy tenderness”.
This is with reference to our attitude towards our parents.
In his footnote to the verse 17:24 Muhammad Asad writes thus:
“Lower for them the wing of humility, out of tenderness (rahmah)” – a metonymical expression evocative of a bird that lovingly spreads its wings over its offspring in the nest”.
In Yusuf Ali’s footnote we find: “The metaphor is from a bird – who lowers her wing in tender solicitude for her little ones”.
How beautiful the Quranic metaphor is?
In this context let us consider some more hadith:
“The relationship between believers is like a wall, parts of which support other parts.” (Muslim)
“The believers, in their mutual relationship, mercy and affection, are like one body. If any part of it complains, the rest of the body will also stay awake in pain.” (Muslim)
The first generation of Believers as trained by the Prophet of Allah, demonstrated this tenderness in their relationship among themselves.

If he found a little liquor,

If he found a little liquor,

he would give it to us.
If he had more,
he would drink happily
while we sang.
where is he now?
If he had even a little rice.
he shared it
in many plates.
where is he now?
If he had more,
he shared it
in many more plates.
where is he now?
He gave us
all the flesh
on the bones
where is he now?
Wherever spear and arrow flew,
he was there.
where is he now?
With his palms scented
with lemon grass,
he carressed my hair
smelling of meat.
where is he now?
The spear that pierced his chest
pierced at once
the wide eating bowls
of great and famous minstrels,
pierced many begging patms,
and, dimming the images in the eyes
of men he sheltered,
it went right through the subtle tongues
of poets
skilled in the search
for good words.
Where is he now,
father, mainstay,
king?
where is he now?
No more,
No singers any more
nor anyone to give anything
to singers
As in the cold waters
jalap flowers blossom,
large, full of honey,
but die untouched, unworn,
there are many now living
and dying,
without giving
one thing
to others.

A RELIGIOUS AND TOLERENT SOCIETY

by mthago
A religious society means a society that moves forward in adopting the way of life commanded by Allah. Allah wants the entire humankind to be successful in their life in this World and Hereafter. In order to ensure the success of humankind, Allah has given the entire humankind a way of life. The Prophet Muhammad SAW has shown this way of life and whoever follows that way of life will be successful. The way of life of Prophet Muhammad SAW begins with the work of enjoining good and forbidding evil and performing five times daily prayers. The males are obligated to perform five times daily prayers with congregation in the mosque and the females are obligated to perform the daily prayers in their houses with the children. A religious society is a society that enjoins people to good and forbids them from evil and steadfast in observing prayers to Allah. With these two main orders of Allah, the way of life of the Prophet Saw will gradually become the way of life of the Muslims. The society will move gradually and steadily to become a religious society. When the Muslims begin to practice these two main orders of Allah, the other orders of Allah will begin to establish in the community. These two main orders of Allah were commanded to the Muslims when they were in Mecca. The other three main orders of Allah (Fasting, Zakat, and Hajj) were commanded to the Muslims when they were in Medina. That society in Medina was a religious and tolerant society and that society came into existence when the Muslims persistently observed the two main orders of Allah while they were in Mecca; the work of enjoining good and forbidding evil and performing five times daily prayers with congregation.
