Rejected Actions

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Whoever does an action that we have not commanded shall have that action rejected.” [Sahih Muslim]

Abdullah ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu) narrated: “We would come with Abdullah ibn Masud to the Masjid. One day Abu Musa al-Ashari came, looking worried, and asked whether Abu Abdur-Rehman (Ibn Masud) had come out. We said ‘No,’ so he also sat waiting. When Ibn Masud came out Abu Musa said, ‘Just now I saw an innovation but it looks good in seeing.’ Ibn Masud said, ‘What did you see?’ Abu Musa said, ‘I saw a group sitting in a circle waiting for us. They had pebbles in their hands. In every circle there was a man who said, ‘Say Takbeer one hundred times’ so they said Takbeer (Allahu Akbar) one hundred times. Then he said, ‘Say Tahleel one hundred times’ so they said Tahleel (Alhamdulillah) one hundred times, and likewise they said Tasbeeh (SubhanAllah) one hundred times.’ Ibn Masud said, ‘Then what did you say?’ Abu Musa said, ‘I did not say anything and I waited for you.’”

Prayer for Fulfillment of a Need

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “When someone seeks fulfillment of a need from Allah or man, he should first carefully perform ablution, say two Rakahs of superoragatory (Nafl) prayer and then offer thanksgiving and praise to The Lord; afterwards, he should invoke peace and blessings of Allah on the Prophet, and finally utter this prayer to Allah: La ilaha illallahul-halimul-karim. Subhanallahi rabbil-arshil-azeem. Wal-hamdu lillahi rabbil-alameen. As’ aluka mujibati rahmatika wa azaaimi maghfiratika wal-ghanimata min kulli birrin was-salamata min kulli ithmin la tada li dhanban illa ghafartahu wa la hamman illa farrajtahu wa la haajatan hiya laka ridan illa qadaitaha ya arhamar-rahimeen.” [Tirmidhi]

Prophet's Khutba for Ramadan

Ibn Khuzaima reported on the authority of Salman al-Farisi that the Prophet (saaw) delivered a Khutbah on the last day of Sh'aban saying: "O people: You are about to enter the shadow of a great blessed month. A night therein is better than a thousand months. Allah (swt) made fasting during this month an obligation and encouraged people to perform extra prayers. during its nights. Seeking nearness to Allah (swt) through a good deed would be considered like performing an obligatory  act of worship. In turn, performance of an obligatory act of worship during this month would be rewarded seventy times more than during any other month. It is the month of patience, and the reward for patience is Jannah. It is the month of comforting others, and the month during which believers would enjoy plentifulness. The Prophet (saaw) went on to say:" Make sure you frequently do four things, two of which would please your Lord and the other two are indispensable for your salvation in the Hereafter. As for the two things that would please your Lord, they are: testifying to  the  oneness of Allah (swt) and seeking repentance. And the other two are: asking Allah  the favour of entering Jannah and seeking refuge in Him from the Hell Fire."
And here is another hadith worth keeping in mind, inshaAllah. The Prophet said, "Whoever does not give up false statements (i.e. telling lies), and evil deeds, and speaking bad words to others, Allah is not in need of his leaving his food and drink (fasting)." Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 8.83, Narrated by Abu Huraira.

Are people like computers?

 Are people like computers?

Just a thought, are we humans a bit like computers.

1] The box that houses the computer comes in all shapes, sizes and colours. Just like humans.

2] We have a hard drive, it’s called a brain and it resides in our skull. The brain controls most of the essential functions of the body. Doing so without us even thinking about them. Just like the main processor in the hard drives operating system.

3] We see, hear, touch, taste and smell by the use of our external sensors, The computer receives information from its external sources. We do have the extra advantage of having the use of logic, gut feeling and some might say a disadvantage the feelings of guilt and compassion.

4] Most computers use the same operating system [I know that is not strictly true] but most humans use the operating system given to them by their creator [whatever you want to call him/her]

Now comes the tricky bit, whilst we all have basically the same bodies and brains, our programming differs greatly. We are all of us influenced by our parents, grand parents and siblings initially. [basic programming] Then we go to school/university were we receive intermediate programming. Has we go to work, meet other people, some are friends, some are work colleagues who influence our thinking.

Oh God, we seek your Mercy!

Oh God, we seek your Mercy!
This world is full of
war and blood
This world is full of
hatred and ignorance
This world is full of
Betrayal and brutality
This world is full of
Falsehood and hypocrisy
A new world full of
love and harmony
A new world full of
humanity and brotherhood
Where children and women are safe
Where knowledge is free for everybody
Where equality is practised
irrespective of colour, cast and creed
Can only give us peace and tranquillity.
Oh God Almighty, we seek your Mercy!
