Full name: Republic of The Gambia

Region:West Africa. Area: 11,295 sq km (4,361 sq miles) Capital : Banjul.

The relaxed pace of life, tropical climate, easy accessibility (only 6 hours flight from Europe – no jet lag) and some of the friendliest people on earth make The Gambia an ideal holiday destination.

The Gambia has great potential for irrigated agriculture, with fresh water from the River Gambia, rain water if harvested, and fossil water that can be drilled. It also has a weather pattern that is suitable for almost all production.

The Gambia has a Muslim population, but other religions exist happily alongside. Gambians practice a tolerance befitting the teachings of Muhammad (pbuh)

Banjul is the capital of Gambia

The Gambia, in the Western most tip of  Africa, is encircled by its neighbouring country Senegal on all sides (map) apart from the Atlantic side, and for this reason the two countries have a lot of cultural & ethnic ties. In contrast to Senegal, a former French colony, The Gambia was colonised by Britain and gained its independence on 18 February, 1965, when it then adopted the National Anthem. The Gambia, in contrast to many of its West African neighbours, it has enjoyed lengthy spells of stability since independence. 

Muslims make up 90% of the Gambian population. Most are Sunni though there are some people who belong to the Shiite, Ahmadiyya & Bahai faiths in Banjul & the Kombo region.
