Harun Yahya ---There is No Compulsion in Islam

Islam is a religion based on love and compassion, which calls for peace and fosters a life in absolute sincerity and honesty before Allah. Therefore it is vitally important for the one to live by the religion of Islam to be a Muslim with his own will and aspiration and observe Allah's commands and advise from heart and soul through personal conscientious contentment.
Muslims instruct goodness and rule out evil as to Allah's command to "command what is right and forbid what is wrong" (Surah Luqman, 17) and call people to the path of Allah with words of purity. Yet, believers know Allah guides to the right way (Surah Al-Qasas, 56), so after elucidating the truth they leave people to their own freedom of conscience. The contrary is out of the question, because trying to make someone Muslim by means of pressure, threat or force is primarily against the essence of Islam... continued

There is no compulsion where deen is concerned. Right guidance has become clearly distinct from error. Anyone who rejects false deities and believes in Allah has grasped the Firmest Handhold, which will never give way. Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. (Surat al-Baqara, 256)
Islam is a religion of love and beauty. Since people who live by Islam see the essence and beauty of this beautiful faith and have a profound belief in Allah, they live in a state of great excitement and enthusiasm. This is an opening of the heart. The source of devotion to Islam is love of Allah. A Muslim prays because of his love of Allah. He performs his religious obligations and lives by the Qur'an because of his love of Allah. In the Qur'an, Allah describes Muslims in that regard as "those whose hearts turn to Allah" and "those who are unreservedly devoted." continued

When the religion of Islam that has been sent as a salvation from the presence of Allah is explained to a person, he believes on his own will and decides without being subjected to any kind of compulsion or duress. People are free to choose truth or error. If they make the wrong choice, they will face its consequence in the Hereafter.
Islam ascribes total freedom of will to people on faith in a very clear cut and plain language. This approach prevailing right from the period of Islam's revelation to our day is the foundation of Islamic morals... continued
Islam is a religion of peace, respect and tolerance. These days, however, certain circles are trying to paint a false picture of Islam. Islam wants to see the world become a place of 'peace and health,' although these circles are trying to suggest the exact opposite and that there is an incompatibility between Islam and members of other religions. Whereas the fact is that Islam adopts a very just and compassionate attitude towards Jews and Christians, described as Peoples of the Book in the Qur'an.
This attitude towards the People of the Book developed during the years of the birth of Islam. At that time, Muslims were a minority, struggling to protect their faith and suffering oppression and torture from the pagans of the city of Mecca. Due to this persecution, some Muslims decided to flee Mecca and shelter in a safe country with a just ruler. The Prophet Muhammad told them to take refuge with King Negus, the Christian king of Ethiopia. The Muslims who followed this advice found a very fair administration that embraced them with love and respect when they went to Ethiopia. King Negus refused the demands of the pagan messengers who asked him to surrender the Muslims to them, and announced that Muslims could live freely in his country. continued
