Prevention is Better than Cure

The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “It is not permissible for any woman who believes in Allah and the Day of Judgement to allow anyone to enter her husband’s house, or to leave home, without her husband’s permission; and she should not obey anyone else in this regard.” [Mustadrak Al-Hakim]

A husband is a great source of protection for a woman. His role is generally appreciated when he is lost. Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) has not required women to learn martial arts and all manners of self defense, rather, He (subhana wa ta’ala) in His Infinite Wisdom has provided guidelines and instructions on how to avoid getting into compromising situations, in which all her training in self defense may still not be able to protect her.

The principle of having the husband’s approval for going out greatly assists a woman to maintain her honour and virtue. Women who go out wherever they want and invite into their homes whomever they feel like, without their husband’s permission, are more likely to lose their honour and character, and end up in a life of sin.
