Words of Wisdom and Hope

"So blessed be God, the best of the creators!"
— Holy Quran, 23:14

The company of a good friend is like an owner of musk; if you don’t buy anything, you will get the smell of it.
The company of a bad friend is like the blacksmith’s bellows; if you are not affected by its black dirt, you will be touched by its smoke.
Prophet Muhammed (saw)

Anger begins with madness and ends with regret.

If misfortune befalls you, it is the consequence of your own actions. Yet God forgives much. On this earth you can not escape God; and there is no one apart from God who can protect or help you.

Love and mercy:
"And among His signs is this that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that ye may dwell in tranquility with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts); verily in that are signs for those who reflect." Translation of the Holy Quran Chapter 30, Verse 21

Islamic Art
An Introduction to Islamic Art
Art is the mirror of a culture and its world view. There is no case to which this statement more directly applies than to the art of the Islamic world. Not only does its art reflect its cultural values, but even more importantly, the way in which its adherents, the Muslims, view the spiritual realm, the universe, life, and the relationship of the parts to the whole.

For the Muslim, reality begins with and centers around God ("Allah" in Arabic), the One, the Unique, the Sovereign, the Holy, the Almighty, the All-Knowing, the Loving, the Most Merciful. All existence is subject to His will and His laws. He is the center of conscious Muslims' worship and aspirations, the focus of their lives.

Since the command and authority are one, all things are bound together under God's Lordship as parts of an all-encompassing divine scheme, which includes all aspects of being and life -- whatever is both inside and outside of time and space, and embracing both the macrocosm in its most awesome manifestations and the microcosm in its most minute forms. God creates and sustains His creation how and as He wills, and all affairs return to Him for ultimate decision and judgment.

With such a belief system, the Muslim is convinced of the balance and harmony of all things in existence, even when there appear to be confusing contradictions and imbalances, regarding these as the reflection of man's limited understanding and knowledge. Nothing is looked upon as occurring randomly or by chance, for all is part of the Plan of the All-Wise, Most Merciful Planner. One of the vital beliefs of the Muslim is that the totality of things, all good and evil, proceed from the Lord of all being.

Because of the strict injunctions against such depictions of humans or animals which might result in idol-worship, Islamic art developed a unique character, utilizing a number of primary forms: geometric, arabesque, floral, and calligraphic, which are often interwoven. From early times, Muslim art has reflected this balanced, harmonious world-view.

Islam prohibits statues and three-dimensional figures of the living creatures.
Islam has prohibited the keeping of statues in the Muslim home. By statues is meant complete, solid figures which have not been disfigured or otherwise defaced. Their presence in a house is considered sufficient to drive away the angels, who represent Allah's mercy and His pleasure. As the Messenger of Allah (peace be on him) said, "Assuredly the angels do not enter a house in which there are statues (or figures)." (Reported by al-Bukhari and Muslim; the wording is from Muslim.)

According to the commentary of scholars, a person who keeps statues in his house is similar to unbelievers, whose practice it is to keep and venerate idols in their homes. The angels are repelled by this; they do not enter such a house and abandon it.

It is also forbidden to the Muslim to engage in manufacturing statues, even if he makes them for non-Muslims. The Prophet (peace be on him) said: "Among the people receiving the harshest punishment on the Day of Resurrection will be the makers of figures,"

or, in another version, "the of Allah's creation." (Reported by al-Bukhari and Muslim.)

He also said, On the Day of Resurrection, the maker of a figure will be asked to breathe a spirit into it, and he will never be able to do so, (Reported by al-Bukhari and others.) meaning that he will be asked to bring it to life in order to reproach and humiliate him.

Tales of Mullah Nasrudin - Moral Stories

Most of the stories are of a well-known and much-loved folk hero throughout the world - Mullah Nasruddin.

He was a simple man, but his intelligence and razor sharp wit made him very popular with the people. His stories are related with humour and each one has a moral, making it a favourite for children. The tales of Mullah Nasruddin are widely told throughout the Middle East and Central Asia. *** Mullah and Alexander: This story tells of Mullah's presence of mind as he outsmarts a very knowledgeable foreigner. * The Greedy Kasim: Mullah teaches his greedy neighbor Kasim, an unforgettable lesson, when he tries to buy Mullah's house. * The Wise Trick: Mullah calms an angry man down with his sharp wit and received rich rewards in return. * Lesson for the Liar: Mullah reminds his friends of their mistakes and teaches them a lesson to stop taking people for granted. * The Beggars Laugh: This is an excellent moral for people who dwell in false pride and prestige. * The Three Friday's: This story makes us wonder at Mullah's sharp intellect. Without preaching he explains the concept of the Quaran and earns the appreciation of everyone around.
Nasruddin and the Woman
A woman is on her balcony, on the 12th floor, when she falls off. As she is falling Father O'Reilly catches her from his balcony on the 9th floor. Grateful for saving her, she says, "oh thank you, you saved my life, I'll do anything for you!"
Father O'Reilly says, "okay then, sleep with me!"
"In your dream you pig!" the woman replies.
"Fine," says Father O'Reilly shrugging his shoulder and he lets go of her.
As the woman is falling again, Rabbi Goldberg catches her from his balcony on the 6th floor. Again, being grateful, she says, "oh thank you, you saved me, I'll do anything that you ask!"
Rabbi Goldberg says, "okay then, sleep with me!"
"You must be joking you ape!" the woman replies.
"Well good bye then," says Rabbi Goldberg and he lets go of her.
Now as she is falling, yet again, she thinks to herself it would have been better if she had slept with either the Rabbi or the Priest. But as luck would have it, she lands in the arms of Mullah Nasruddin who is standing on his balcony on the 3rd floor. She cuts to the point, "thank you handsome, you saved my life, I'll sleep with you!"
"Astaqfirullah!" gasps Mullah Nasruddin and he lets go of her.

You can be the happiest woman in the world

You can be the happiest woman in the world

by xeniagreekmuslimah
Dr. ‘A’id al Qarni

With your beauty, you are better than the sun; with your morals you are more sublime than musk; with your modesty you are nobler than the full moon; with your compassion you a more beneficial than rain. So, preserve your beauty with faith, your tranquillity with contentment, your chastity with hijab.
Remember that your adornment is not gold, silver or diamond, rather, it is two rak’ahs at Fajr going thirsty when you fast for Allah, concealed charity which no one knows except Him, hot tears that wash away sin, a lengthy prostration born of utter submission to Allah, shyness before Allah when the inclination to do evil overwhelms you.
Clothe yourself with the garments of taqwa (piety) for you are the most beautiful woman in the world, even if your clothes are shabby. Clothe yourself with cloak of modesty, for you are the most beautiful woman in the world even if you are barefoot.
Beware of the life bewitching immoral disbelieving women, for they are the fuel of the fire of Hell.
O’ sincere Muslim, O’ believing woman who constantly turns to Allah, the Exalted, be like the palm tree and rise above evil and harm; if a stone is thrown at the palm tree, it lets its fruit drop (and does not retaliate). It remains green summer and winter, and gives many benefits. Do not lower yourself to the level of trivial matters, and rise above all that may damage your modesty and honour.
A man had an argument with his wife and said, "I am going to make your life miserable." The wife calmly replied, "You cannot do that." He said, "Why not?" She said: "If happiness were to be found in money or jewellery, you could deprive me of it and take it away from me, but it is nothing over which you or any other person has control. I find happiness in my faith, and my faith is in my heart, and no one has power over it except my Lord."
The One Who created happiness is the Most Gracious, Most Merciful, so how can you seek happiness from anyone other than Him? If people had control over happiness, there would be no deprived or grieving person left on earth.
"Do not give up on yourself, because change is usually slow; you will encounter obstacles that will discourage you, but do not let these obstacles defeat you."
"Your gold is your religion, your adornment is your moral attitude, and your wealth is your good manners."
"When distress strikes and calamities come one after another, then say: La ilaha illallah."
"Take from the breeze its tenderness, from the musk its fragrance and from the mountains steadfastness."
"Do not make your problems the subject of conversations with others, for by doing so you create a barrier between yourself and happiness."
"The mother whose child falls from a high place should not waste time weeping; rather, she should focus on tending to his injuries."
"The most sincere generosity comes from those who do not have anything but recognise the value of a kind word and a smile, How many people give, but it is as if they are giving a slap."
"The most difficult time could be made easier by the smile of a confident person."
"Prepare for the worst, then you will feel that things are getting better."
"Do not feel sad or miserable because of some work that you could not complete, rather you should understand that the work of great people is never done."
"Be happy now, today, not tomorrow."

"Frustration is your worst enemy, for it has the power to destroy peace of mind."
"Your happiness does not depend on anyone else, rather, it is in your hands."
"Work is the fuel of hope and the enemy of failure."
"Yesterday is a dream that has gone and tomorrow is merely a beautiful hope. Only today is real."
"Physical well-being comes from eating little, mental well-being comes from sinning little, well-being of the heart comes from worrying little and well-being of the tongue comes from speaking little."
"Is she happy who shows her beauty to the dogs of mankind and displays her charm to the wolves of them?"
"Men regret speaking, but he will never regret silence."
"In order to be beautiful, your thoughts should be so."
"Man finds happiness in a word that comes from the lips of a woman."
"The strongest fortress is a righteous woman."
"Nothing raises the status of a woman like chastity."
"If a beautiful woman is a jewel, a righteous woman is a treasure."
"The best thing a man can have is a faithful wife."
"Be beautiful and you will see the world beautiful."
"A wise man said: ‘I have never regretted what I did not say, but I have often regretted what I did say.’"

"Do not wait to be happy so that you smile but smile to be happy."
"Be optimistic, even if you are in the eye of the storm."
"Soon the flowers will bloom, grief will depart and happiness will prevail.
"Leave the wrongdoer to the court of the Hereafter when there will be no judge but Allah"
"Sickness is a message in which there is a glad tiding; and good health is a garment that has a price."
"Plant a tasbih (saying Subhan Allah) in a second, an idea in a minute, and a deed in an hour."
"Control your thoughts and you will be happy."
"The successful woman is supplicated for, praised by her husband, loved by her neighbours and respected by her friends."
"All people will live, the one who lives in a palace and the one who lives in a hovel. But who is the one who is happy?"

"Giving up sin is Jihad (fighting in Allah’s Cause), but persisting in it is stubbornness."

"In the sound heart there is no room for shirk (polytheism), deceit, rancour or envy."
"The wise woman turns a desert into a beautiful garden."
"Futile arguments and trivial discussions take away the sense of peace and tranquillity."
"Wherever you go and find darkness in your life; what you have to do is to light the lamp within yourself."
"Changing from bad to good is a long-term adventure, but it is wonderful."
"If you give in to despair, you will learn nothing and you will never find happiness."
"Check your past and your present, for life is a sequence of experiences from which one should emerge victorious."
"Do not be content to have some dark areas in your life, for the light is there; all you have to do is to turn it on and see it shining."
"Stop regretting your sin and think about the good deeds with which you are going to replace it."
"Happiness exists in you and you should focus your efforts on yourself."
"We need money in order to live but that does not mean that we need to live for the sake of money."
"Cast away all discouraging thoughts that make you feel helpless, and focus on success, then you will never fail."
"If you fail in one of your deeds, you should not give in to despair; do not worry and never doubt that you will find a solution."
"Do not complain about your problems except to those who can help you with advice and kind words."
"The mother whose child falls from a high place should not waste time weeping; rather, she should focus on tending to his injuries."
"Learn how to co-exist with fear and it will disappear."
"Prepare for the worst, then you will feel that things are getting better."
"Do not worry about things that you cannot perform, rather, spend time on improving what you can improve."
"Be happy with what is in your hand, content with whatever Allah has decreed and give up all daydreams that do not suit your efforts and abilities."

Sura 93, “The Morning Hours”

By the morning hours
By the night when it is still
Your lord has not abandoned you
and does not hate you

What is after will be better
than what came before
To you the lord will be giving
You will be content

Did he not find you orphaned and give you shelter
Find you lost and guide you
Find you in hunger and provide for you

As for the orphan, do not oppress him
And one who asks, do not turn him away
And the grace of your lord -- proclaim

What’s the Right Thing to do? I’m Confused.

I had once blogged that to live a life of no-regret and to maintain a sparkling conscience, you need to follow just two steps.

1. Always do the Right thing.
2. Give your best at it.

But what is the Right thing to do? Is majority always right? Does one always follow the principle of the Greatest Good for the Greatest Number? If so, then you are justified in killing one person to take his organs to save five others who need them. If that doesn’t make moral-intutional sense because you feel individuals have rights that are greater than the majority, then you have no right to support a ban on Alcohol, Smoking or Prostitution, if certain individuals want to indulge in the same, while the majority don’t.

I’ve asked these questions to myself several times, I’ve read philosophical books on these and have even attended classes on the same. I have finally come across the best explanation in this fabulous series of lectures by Harvard Professor Michael Sandel on What’s the Right Thing To Do. The first few were simply riveting and am eagerly looking forward to completing the series. I am on Lecture 4, Titled: Consenting Adults. Watch or Hear the first lecture here and if you’ve ever thought about the above questions, I guarantee you’ll be hooked. Professor Michael’s practical examples of what’s the right thing make this so engaging and relevant, I wish I had learnt this stuff back in school.

Oh by the way, I bumped into this lecture, because I am subscribed to the Learn Out Loud Free Resource of the Day Email. I LOVE this Email Service. I get access to incredible wealth of Audio and Video material without searching for it. I highly recommend subscribing to it.

Importance of saying Insha'Allah + Maher Zain - Insha Allah | ماهر زين - ان شاء الله

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim
Here Allah, may He be glorified, shows His Messenger the correct etiquette when determining to do something in the future; this should always be referred to the will of Allah, the Knower of the Unseen, Who knows what was and what is yet to be and what is not to be, and how it will be if it is to be. It was recorded in the Two Sahihs that Abu Hurayrah said that the Messenger of Allah said:
(Sulayman bin Dawud (peace be upon them both) said: "Tonight I will go around to seventy women ﴿according to some reports, it was ninety or one hundred womenso that each one of them will give birth to a son who will fight for the sake of Allah.'' It was said to him, ﴿according to one report, the angel said to him"Say: `If Allah wills'", but he did not say it. He went around to the women but none of them gave birth except for one who gave birth to a half-formed child.) The Messenger of Allah said, (By the One in Whose hand is my soul, had he said, "If Allah wills,'' he would not have broken his oath, and that would have helped him to attain what he wanted. ) According to another report, (They would all have fought as horsemen in the cause of Allah.) At the beginning of this Surah we discussed the reason why this Ayah was revealed: when the Prophet was asked about the story of the people of the Cave, he said, "I will tell you tomorrow.'' Then the revelation was delayed for fifteen days. Since we discussed this at length at the beginning of the Surah, there is no need to repeat it here.وَاذْكُر رَّبَّكَ إِذَا نَسِيتَ(And remember your Lord when you forget) It was said that this means, if you forget to say "If Allah wills", then say it when you remember. This was the view of Abu Al-`Aliyah and Al-Hasan Al-Basri. Hushaym reported from Al-A`mash from Mujahid that concerning a man who swears an oath, Ibn `Abbas said "He may say `If Allah wills' even if it is a year later.'' Ibn `Abbas used to interpret this Ayah:وَاذْكُر رَّبَّكَ إِذَا نَسِيتَ(And remember your Lord when you forget) in this way. Al-A`mash was asked, "Did you hear this from Mujahid" He said, "Layth bin Abi Salim told it to me.'' The meaning of Ibn `Abbas' view, that a person may say "If Allah wills'', even if it is a year later, is that if he forgets to say it when he makes the oath or when he speaks, and he remembers it later, even a year later, the Sunnah is that he should say it, so that he will still be following the Sunnah of saying "If Allah wills'', even if that is after breaking his oath. This was also the view of Ibn Jarir, but he stated that this does not make up for breaking the oath or mean that one is no longer obliged to offer expiation. What Ibn Jarir said is correct, and it is more appropriate to understand the words of Ibn Abbas in this way. And Allah knows best.وَلاَ تَقْولَنَّ لِشَىْءٍ إِنِّى فَاعِلٌ ذلِكَ غَداً إِلاَّ أَن يَشَآءَ اللَّهُ وَاذْكُر رَّبَّكَ إِذَا نَسِيتَ(And never say of anything, "I shall do such and such thing tomorrow.'' Except (with the saying), "If Allah wills!" And remember your Lord when you forget) At-Tabarani recorded that Ibn `Abbas said that this meant saying, "If Allah wills.'' وَقُلْ عَسَى أَن يَهْدِيَنِ رَبِّى لاًّقْرَبَ مِنْ هَـذَا رَشَدًا(and say: "It may be that my Lord guides me to a nearer way of truth than this.'') meaning, `if you (O Prophet) are asked about something you know nothing about, ask Allah about it, and turn to Him so that He may guide you to what is right.' And Allah knows best. وَلَبِثُواْ فِى كَهْفِهِمْ ثَلاثَ مِئَةٍ سِنِينَ وَازْدَادُواْ تِسْعًا - قُلِ اللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا لَبِثُواْ لَهُ غَيْبُ السَّمَـوَتِ وَالاٌّرْضِ أَبْصِرْ بِهِ وَأَسْمِعْ مَا لَهُم مِّن دُونِهِ مِن وَلِىٍّ وَلاَ يُشْرِكُ فِى حُكْمِهِ أَحَدًا ( And they stayed in their cave three hundred years, adding nine.) . Say: "Allah knows best how long they stayed. With Him is the unseen of the heavens and the earth.'' How clearly He sees, and hears (everything)! They have no protector other than Him, and He makes none to share in His decision and His rule.)

And that its way too late

Your`re so confused, wrong decisions you have made

Haunt your mind and your heart is full of shame

Don`t despair and never loose hope

Cause Allah is always by your side

Insya Allah 2x

Insya Allah you`ll find your way

Insya Allah 2x

Insya Allah you`ll find your way

Turn to Allah

He`s never far away

Put your trust in Him

Raise your hands and pray

OOO Ya Allah

Guide my steps don`t let me go astray

You`re the only one that showed me the way,

Showed me the way 2x

Insya Allah 2x

Insya Allah we`ll find the way

This is the image from the Moshaf (The book where Qur'an is written) of the first words revelaed of Qur'an to Prophet Muhammad on Mount of Light. They are written in Uthmani calligraphy. It says what means;
"1. Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 2. Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood:
3. Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 4. He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 5. Taught man that which he knew not. ...

Should the women be asked for their consent to their marriage?

Aisha (Radiyallaahu `anhu) asked the Prophet of Allah (Sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam),
“O Allah’s Apostle! Should the women be asked for their consent to their marriage?” He said, “Yes.” I said, “A virgin, if asked, feels shy and keeps quiet.” He said, “Her silence means her consent.””

Someone asking for your daughter in marriage

Allah’s Messenger (Sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said,
“When someone with whose religion and character you are satisfied asks your daughter in marriage, accede to his request. If you do not do so, there will be temptation on Earth and extensive corruption.”

Prophet Muhammad (s) said: “Among my followers the best of men are those who are best to their wives, and the best of women are those who are best to their husbands. To each of such women is set down a reward equivalent to the reward of a thousand martyrs. Among my followers, again, the best of women are those who assist their husbands in their work, and love them dearly for everything, save what is a transgression of God’s laws.”

“And among His signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may dwell in peace and tranquility with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts): Verily in that are signs for those who reflect” (Quran 30:21).
“O Humans revere your Guardian Lord, Who created you from a single person created of like nature its mate, and from this scattered (like seeds) countless men and women. Reverence Allah through Whom you claim your mutual rights” (Quran 4:1).
